Last night I decided to do the intermediate plan instead of the novice. I'm up for the challenge and it keeps me motivated.
Tonight I was supposed to do some track work but the track is not open by my house and it was too late to drive to one that was. So I ran my butt of at 5k pace for two miles, which is the same distance. On the track I would have sprinted all circles around the track eight times with a small break in between. I HATE work like this!! Even without the track, tonight kicked my tail! I was almost crying at then end. Half of the tears would have been from the excitement of how fast I was running, the other half from not being able to breathe! :) My friend Heidi knows how much I abhor a 5k and I swore I would NEVER do one again and I mean it!
The thing I hate about a 5k is the pace. It's a fast race! But I think every beginner should start with one to get the "feel" for a race. Heidi enjoys them. I hate them! I prefer a 10k. It's long enough to allow me to find my groove. I am much faster in long distances. The longer, the better. This is why I am really enjoying the Saturday mornings of long runs. It's the most therapeutic thing I have ever experienced. BUT this speed work I did tonight will make tomorrow's run seem like a breeze and it will be faster without me even trying to be faster because of the work I did tonight. Heidi and I talked today on the phone about how we glance down at the Garmin and wonder "Is that right? Am I really running that fast?". So we glance again to make sure it's not broken and then notice the fast pace again and at that moment we feel like screaming because we know we have grown and gotten faster through all this tough training.
I share all of this with you because I have never been disciplined. NEVER. Running has taught me I can do anything. It's given me hope in so many ways. I want everyone to experience what I have and that is why I am so excited about running! It never gets old. It never ceases to amaze me. Thank you God for all you are teaching me about myself. I am much stronger than I ever realized.
(Another reason I love the Garmin is what it does when you hook it up to your computer. The thing is amazing! I have every run documented because of the Garmin! And if you run trails or in an area you can't check the mileage with your car, even better. It rocks!!!!)
Happy running,
Amanda
(I love you Kelly Ann and i am praying for you when I run!!!)

what does 8 X400 mean? i know 5k is 3 miles. i just started running a couple months ago and can't figure out what those numbers mean. thanx
around the track 8 times. it's two miles. 5k is 3.1 miles. unless your training plan calls for you to do that, no need to even think about those numbers! :)
